When to Open Your Pool:
With all the warm weather we’ve had mixed in, I know you are wondering when you can open your pool? Well, that is going to depend on you remembering a few things.
Do you remember when you closed your pool? Was your pool winterized by a professional? Do you remember if the water was clear or murky/dirty?
The reason these questions are important is because, if your pool was not properly winterized, it could be costly to open. Let’s assume you had a cover on your pool this winter after you winterized the pool. Pool covers protect your pool from freezing conditions which is a good start! However, we now need to look at when you closed the pool, was it as late in fall or early fall? If you had the pool winterized too early, before temperatures cooled, it is possible that you could have a late algae bloom. Otherwise known as a green pool when you take off the cover this Spring. If your pool was green in the fall prior to covering, it may cost hundreds to thousands of dollars to clean it up. If your pool was green in the fall and not cleaned prior to winterization, waiting all winter long can in worst case scenarios lead to us having to replace the pool liner or resurface the pool.
In Nebraska, we experience continual freezing through the winter months, so we do not suggest opening your pool until the weather becomes consistently warm. Typically, we would want to open your pool around end of March beginning of April.
